PMBP® Permanent Mini Bridge Plug

The Avalon PMBP is an electric line or slickline deployed bridge plug designed to set in coil tubing, drilling string or other small bore annulus.

PMBPs are designed to withstand differential pressures of up to 10 000 psi (70Mpa) at 3500F (1750C). In house, the PMBPs have been successfully pressure tested to 7500 psi (52Mpa).

Available in four sizes, the PMBP system is the ideal choice for pressure control in the 7/8” (22mm) to 1.75” (44mm) setting range.

The PMBP uses opposed, case hardened slips located above and below a three peice elastomer pack-off assembly manufactured out of HSN (Highly Saturated Nitrile) or Viton. The elements are contained by rocker action metal back-up rings to prevent extrusion at high pressures and temperatures. A ratchet lock ring retains the setting force applied to the plug to maintain a constant sealing pressure. Ribbed cones direct the slips outward to help center the plug against the pipe or tubing wall.

PMBPs are now available in a pump-through configuration with a check valve equipped bottom sub rated to a standard cracking pressure of 25 psi and check rating of 6000 psi (40Mpa).

Note: setting plugs under 1” using the 3/4” PMBP requires use of the 3/4” setting tool. These cases have specific requirements and are considered on a per-job basis.

Applications

  • Pressure control for snubbing operations
  • Drilling operations as a mechanical barrier to replace failed downhole equipment (ie- damaged check valves)
  • Coil Tubing retreival (as a mechanical barrier)
  • Coil Tubing cleanout (using pump through check valve for nitrogen purge)
  • Coil Tubing fishing operations (post chemical cut)

Application Notes

  • PMBP plugs should be selected according to actual tubing/pipe I.D
  • Consider the actual I.D vs. the drift of coil tubing when ordering
  • Because of the varied nature of coil tubing I.D and weld condition, double barrier (two plugs) is always recommended.
  • For high pressure, high temperature or critical sour operations, miniature cement bailer systems are available. 
  • Jobs requiring 3/4” PMBP and toolstring require special considerations and are specified on a per job basis. Inquire with Avalon directly.
